The species is frequently cited as being used in herbal medicine. Many scientific studies of the use of aloe vera have been undertaken, some of them conflicting.

Aloe is definitely an anti-inflammatory herb.

Use a knife to cut a leaf of the plant off at its thick base. Then use a spoon to scoop out the gel-like sap and apply it to the skin.

The juice of aloe vera is often used for medical purposes, so when you are cutting the leaf off, make sure to have a vessel ready so that you can put it immediately in it.

Use as a hair gel

Aloe also works nicely as a natural hair-styling gel.

Drink In Smoothies

You can also try the gel in smoothies, as it is a natural and healthy breath freshener.

Aloe Vera Healing During DeTox Diets

One of those effective natural remedies is aloe vera. Externally, fresh aloe vera gel is fantastic for skin healing. My 3 year old girl burned her hand on a clothes iron and our solution was to dip her hand in fresh aloe vera gel. When my eczema raged, I put aloe vera gel on my eczema in a race to heal my skin; sure it worked... for a while, then my body in its wisdom re-opened my skins to let my toxins out.

Aloe Vera Juice

Some letter senders have pointed out that they are getting good results with using aloe vera internally. Dr. Sandra Cabot, the liver doctor also recommends aloe vera to cure leaky gut. Oh yes, I remember buying aloe vera juice in the supermarket. But that is supermarket quality... which is really no quality with the preservatives, the sugar and the flavoring and the coloring they put in there. My landlord has a large aloe vera patch in her back yard, I would have to raid her whole aloe vera garden patch to make enough juice to heal leaky gut.

Cuts & Scratches, burns & sunburns

It can be used on burns, cuts and rashes. There is some preliminary evidence that Aloe vera extracts may be useful in the treatment of wound and burn healing.

The pulp of the aloe vera plant can also be used to treat burns, including sunburns. It is soothing to the skin.

In case of burns, an immediate application of fresh gel has relieved much of the pain, and prevented blistering, many times. I also found it to be quite effective to relieve itching from stings, bites and various 'stinging' plants, such as poison ivy. Aloe gel is also good for the same problems when they are encountered by your pets. When you need to use it medicinally, just remove a lower leaf from the plant, slice it open, and apply the gel on the affected area.

Eating aloe vera

  • I have to prepare it I'm discovering these days that some mornings I do not have the time to do the cutting, scraping the gel, and blending with the orange juce before I leave for the office. I have to juggle my daily routines to make time for this. So today I'll do it when I'm making supper... but I can see that this can become a challenge for some individuals.

Aloe Juice for Intestinal Treatment

Aloe vera extracts and juices have been shown useful in diabetes and elevated blood lipids in humans. These positive effects are thought to be due to the presence of compounds such as polysaccharides, mannans, anthraquinones and lectins.

Gargle

  • Cut or pinch off several aloe vera leaves from an aloe vera plant. Place the leaves in an enamel pan.

  • Add several pints of water to the enamel pan with the aloe vera leaves in it. Bring the water to a boil.

  • Strain the water and aloe vera leaves well, allowing the mixture to cool, and use as a gargle.

Harvesting and Preparing Aloe

Harvesting Aloe Plants

The sap of the Aloe is a thick, mucilaginous gel. It is this gel which is used medicinally. The outer skin has essentially no value, but because it is commercially easier and less expensive to utilize the entire leaf, 'whole leaf' Aloe juice has been hyped as the 'best'. This is not the case.

  • Some of the leaves may break off. You can keep them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for a few days, and use them on your skin.

Harvest leaves as often as needed from grown plant. Cut the leaves nearest to the soil as they are the most potent and mature. The leaves wound are sealed and healed quickly, but they will not grow back. New leaves will grow on developing shoots and replace cut leaves. You will have unlimited supply of plant leaves and Aloe gel from a healthy plant.

Before cutting the aloe vera leaf, make sure that the knife being used is washed properly. Any infection or damage to one part of the plant can cause damage to the other parts as well.

Be careful when handling your aloe. Some varieties can have sharp tips to their leaves or other rough or sharp parts along their blades.

Extract juice or gel from leaf

The juice is extracted from the leaves.

How to fillet aloe vera

Mike Adams of Natural News has a visual tutorial on how to fillet aloe vera.

I was corrected that there are now aloe vera gels in capsules. The pure stuff without the additives in commercial aloe vera juices. Now this sounds interesting. Ingest enough aloe vera gel continuously and your leaky gut should heal in time. So a largely raw paleolithic diet, without grains, beans and potatoes, without nightshades plus aloe vera internally could prove to be an alternative to curing leaky gut.
